EPURON enters the up-and-coming Turkish wind power market
-50 percent annual growth - Great potential for wind power in Turkey
-EPURON has submitted ten wind projects for approval and with it sets the course for sustainable growth
Istanbul/Hamburg, 29 April 2008 – Renewable energy is on the rise in Turkey: as the need for electric power is due to increase by almost 50 percent within the next five years, the Turkish market is at the moment experiencing a rapid growth in renewable energy. In particular, wind energy will play an increasing role in Turkey: a wind power output of only 250 megawatts has been installed so far, in which an annual average growth of 50 percent until 2012 is expected.
Against the background of a low-priced market development, a joint venture of EPURON GmbH and the Turkish building company ATASEVEN is planning the construction of large wind parks in Turkey. The two companies have submitted ten wind energy projects with a total power of 3,000 megawatts to the national energy authority EMRA (Energy Market Regulatory Authority) for approval. The joint venture is expecting to be awarded the licence in 2009. Only then will the final project volume be determined.
"Turkey is one of the strongest wind energy growth markets in the Mediterranean. We have several locations here where we will carry out various projects. The amount of megawatts we convert can only be determined after the conclusion of the approval process", explains Joachim Müller, EPURON Chief Financial Officer, in Istanbul.
ATASEVEN is taking over the infrastructure work in the joint venture. EPURON is responsible for the location development and financing of the wind parks via international major banks and investors. "In EPURON we have found a partner with plenty of know-how in the area of implementing large wind parks who has proven its expertise in over twenty large projects in Germany, France, Italy and Australia. Together, we wish to play an important role in Turkey's wind energy market", says Mustafa Serdar, Managing Director with ATASEVEN.
